What is a Charm?Definition: A spell that adds certain properties to an object or creature, or modifies what it already does.Core Difference: Unlike Transfiguration, which changes the inner essence of a target, a charm leaves the target's core identity intact while altering its behavior or appearance.Curriculum: Taught by Professor Flitwick at Hogwarts, it is a compulsory class for students up to their O.W.L. exams.Basic and Notable CharmsLevitation Charm (Wingardium Leviosa): Makes objects fly or float in the air.Summoning Charm (Accio): Calls an object toward the caster from a distance.Wand-Lighting Charm (Lumos): Illuminates the tip of the caster's wand.Extension Charm (Capacious Extremis): Expands the internal dimensions of an object without changing its external size or weight, strictly controlled by the Ministry of Magic (read more at the Official Harry Potter Encyclopedia).
